This story is the long-form culmination of my two-week trip to Niger funded by the Pulitzer Center on Crisis Reporting.

Strewn Thumbtacks Create Chaos for Cyclists in Va. Beach
This story garnered more than 500 comments and was the most-commented story on the Virginian-Pilot’s website in the month of June (2011).

The music festival Vail hosts each summer is one of the biggest productions of the season. When a long-time member of the production was cut out of the following year’s schedule, I wrote this story in under two hours, tracking down and getting quotes from sources reluctant to talk.
